Who I Am

I’m Mace Johns, the founder and lead author of Physics Fundamentals. I built this platform because I believe physics education is broken — and interactive tools fix what textbooks can’t.

I’ve spent years studying how students actually learn physics. The answer is not more lectures. It’s not longer textbooks. It’s hands-on interaction — plugging in your own numbers, seeing the trajectory change, watching the forces balance in real time.

That’s why Physics Fundamentals leads with tools, not articles. We have 40+ free interactive calculators covering every branch of physics. The concept guides exist to support the tools — not the other way around.

My Approach to Teaching Physics

Start with why, not what. I never open with a formula. Every explanation begins with the physical picture — what is actually happening. The math comes after the intuition is in place.

Call out misconceptions. The biggest barrier to learning physics is not the math. It’s the wrong beliefs students carry from everyday experience. “Heavier objects fall faster.” “You need force to keep moving.” “Heat and temperature are the same.” I identify these mistakes and correct them directly.

Use real numbers. Every formula on this site is followed by a worked example with real numbers. Abstract equations mean nothing until you see 5 kg × 3 m/s² = 15 N.

Keep it short. No paragraph on my site is longer than three sentences. If I can’t explain it clearly and briefly, I haven’t understood it well enough to teach it.

What I’ve Built

40+ interactive physics tools — calculators and simulators across mechanics, waves, thermodynamics, electricity, modern physics, and utility categories. Each tool takes user inputs and returns step-by-step solutions.

Complete concept guides — covering all five branches of physics with answer-first formatting, worked examples, and misconception callouts.

Exam prep resources — JEE Physics Problem Bank, AP Physics 1 Practice, GCSE Physics Revision, and a Physics Quiz Generator.

Downloadable resources — formula sheets and reference materials available as free PDF downloads.

My Mission

Physics describes how the universe actually works. Every bridge, every rocket, every smartphone, every MRI machine exists because someone understood the physics.

That knowledge should not be locked behind $200 textbooks or $50/month subscriptions. Everything on Physics Fundamentals is free. No paywalls. No login required. No ads interrupting your learning.

I want every curious student on Earth to have access to the same quality of physics education — regardless of where they live or what they can afford.
